The Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce has published “What do employees and employers in Massachusetts need to know about the Paid Family and Medical Leave Act?” written by Sherelle Wu. The Paid Family and Medical Leave Act (PFMLA) has been in effect for a year, and now benefits are beginning to become available for the first time. Sherelle Wu discusses what Massachusetts employers and employees need to know about PFMLA going into the new year.
Most benefits under the PFMLA will become available on January 1, 2021. Covered individuals (most employees who receive a W-2 and certain contractors who receive a 1099-MISC) can receive a maximum weekly benefit of up to $850, determined by the individual’s average weekly earnings, for up to 26 total weeks of paid leave in a benefit year.
