Jon Barooshian Quoted in Law360’s “Corruption Trial Puts Mass. Pot Regime Under Microscope”
A former Massachusetts mayor is being put on trial after being accused of “shaking down marijuana businesses.” The former mayor is being tried on charges from two arrests, one in 2018 and the other in 2019. Law360 spoke with Jon Barooshian about how in 2019 the U.S. attorney’s office stated that it would not be “scrutinizing host community agreements to make sure cities and towns were not trying to squeeze more from shops than legally allowed.”
“I think that was a very big, positive sign to the players involved,” said Bowditch & Dewey LLP partner Jon Barooshian. He added that the various cannabis companies Correia allegedly extorted will likely “feature very prominently in this trial.”
