Mark Borenstein Quoted in Worcester Telegram’s “Mason Street affordable housing project gets Planning Board approval”

The Worcester Planning Board unanimously approved Kensington Management’s site plan to convert a Mason Street lot into 94 units of affordable housing. The project is a seven-story high-rise that would be a mix of one- two- and three-bedroom units. The proposal also includes 66 parking spaces along with a loading space and an exterior recreation area. The plan calls for all accessible units, with five percent designed for residents with greater accessibility needs. Mark Borenstein spoke with the Worcester Telegram about the project:

Mark noted that Kensington Management works with local housing organizations to aggregate their clients to fill up the affordable units and stated “They essentially lease to these organizations, the organizations work with their network to make sure that people who need housing can have it.” Mark said the needs of those clients tend to range between 20 to 80 percent of the area median income, which goes wider than the area median income levels of the city’s recently passed inclusionary zoning ordinance in April that creates a sliding scale of 60 to 80 percent area median income.
