Meaghan E. Borys

Of Counsel

Overview

Meaghan Borys is a seasoned employment and higher education attorney. She conducts internal investigations, chairs and manages administrative decision-making panels, and counsels clients with respect to allegations of discrimination, harassment, and retaliation, as well as alleged violations of local conduct rules and codes. Meaghan advises private and public institutions and organizations on policy development, Board governance, and student affairs. She also designs and conducts employee trainings with respect to federal, state, and local regulatory law and compliance. Meaghan’s clients include Ivy League institutions, public university systems, government agencies, and private corporations.

In the higher education space, Meaghan focuses her practice on Title IX, Title VI, Title VII, VAWA, and ADA/Section 504 compliance. She investigates cases involving several and/or high-profile parties, procedural and/or evidentiary complexities, and highly-sensitive subject matters, including allegations of criminal conduct. She is regularly engaged to serve as hearing chair and decision-maker for Title IX cases.

Meaghan is also counsel to the Board of Trustees of Landmark College, an undergraduate educational institution designed exclusively for students who learn differently—including those with a learning disability, ADHD, autism, or executive function challenges—that champions a strengths-based learning model and conducts groundbreaking neurodiversity research.

Before Bowditch

Prior to joining Bowditch, Meaghan was an associate at a Boston law firm and represented both educational and non-profit institutions; she also handled business disputes and probate litigation. Before entering private practice, Meaghan worked in the Office for Dispute Resolution at Harvard University and conducted Title IX and related internal investigations involving faculty, students, and staff. Additionally, she spent six years with the Harvard Dean of Students Office serving as a resident advisor and mentor to first-year undergraduates. At the outset of her career, Meaghan had the honor of clerking for the Justices of the Massachusetts Superior Court. She then went on to serve as an Assistant District Attorney in the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office and litigated hundreds of criminal cases on behalf of the Commonwealth.

Besides work

Meaghan is an avid podcast listener who grew up along the beautiful shores of Lake Superior in northern Minnesota. These days, outside the office, you can find her hiking, running, at a local library, or on some kind of (typically culinary) adventure with family and friends.
