Developing a 21st Century Economy for Massachusetts
Bowditch & Dewey recently hosted Jay Ash, Secretary of Housing and Economic Development for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts at a cocktail reception at our Boston office, the first in a planned series of events. Almost fifty guests, representing a range of industries including real estate development, higher education, hospitality, business consulting and non-profits, joined our attorneys to greet Secretary Ash in an intimate, candid setting.
Secretary Ash summarized the recently issued Baker-Polito Administration Economic Development Plan. According to Secretary Ash, the Plan identifies, among other challenges, the need to streamline government to promote economic growth. In addition, Secretary Ash emphasized the obligation to make government spending on infrastructure improvements more effective and efficient to maximize the use of valuable public funds. Secretary Ash candidly answered questions from guests on the status of specific projects and state initiatives aimed at fostering progress in the areas of real estate and infrastructure.
The Secretary and our guests took advantage of the relaxed environment to discuss the challenges and opportunities for continuing economic expansion and ensuring such growth reaches all geographic and demographic populations of the Commonwealth. Bowditch & Dewey appreciates Secretary Ash’s time and that the Secretary enthusiastically engaged the room on all topics raised and created an environment that encouraged open discourse and disparate views.
