Amy B. Fabiano Joins the Higher Education Group at Bowditch, Bringing In-House Counsel Experience
Worcester, Framingham and Boston, MA — March 7, 2024 — Amy Fabiano, an experienced higher education attorney, has joined Bowditch’s Higher Education Group, which is part of the firm’s Employment and Labor Practice, serving as Of Counsel.
Amy brings extensive in-house counsel experience to the group, which is one of Massachusetts’ largest, representing more than 30 colleges, universities, and independent schools. She was previously the Associate General Counsel at Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI), handling a broad range of legal and compliance matters including contract drafting and negotiations, policy development, civil rights and Title IX compliance, enterprise risk management, student affairs and HR issues, and COVID-19 and emergency response.
Before WPI, she was a Civil Rights Attorney within the U.S. Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights (OCR) and focused largely on Title IX and Section 504. Before her government service, Amy practiced at an AmLaw 200 firm and focused her pro bono practice on special education and school discipline laws for K-12 schools.
“Amy Fabiano’s firsthand understanding of the challenges that our clients confront day-to-day is invaluable,” said Tim Van Dyck, Practice Area Leader, Employment and Labor. “From Title IX compliance to policy development, and from disciplinary proceedings to contract negotiations, these matters are wide ranging. Amy is a knowledgeable, skilled, and empathetic resource.”
“Bowditch’s higher education group’s role as outside general counsel and their experience with discrimination and harassment issues are second to none,” said Amy Fabiano. “I’m thrilled to join this strong legal team and serve institutions of higher education and independent schools throughout the state.”
Amy earned her J.D., magna cum laude, from Boston University School of Law, where she was elected to the Law Review. She also earned her M.A. and B.A., summa cum laude, in Political Science from Boston University, where she received several prizes and honors, including membership in Phi Beta Kappa.
