What Does Same Sex Marriage Look Like In the Bay State?
Massachusetts became the first state to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples eleven years ago on May 17, 2004. According to a 2014 look at trends in same-sex marriage by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health, “Between May 17, 2004 and December 31, 2004, nearly one in five marriages in Massachusetts was a same-sex marriage.” The analysis added: “Since 2005, the proportion of same-sex marriages has varied between 4% and 8% of total marriages with the average of being 6% of all marriages.”
